Why are some in fear? It is human nature to wonder how it will all end. If you doubt that, realize that humanity has something called the “dooms day clock.” You can read about it here: Doomsday Clock
The Bible also tells us that there will come a time when this world will end and be replaced with one with no more sorrow and death. But prophecy also tells us of a time before the end when things will get worse, much worse than we are experiencing today. God’s Word recognizes this and accurately states the mind set of many during these times:
“....men’s hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.” (Luke 21:26)
We have seen in YouTube videos and in the news and in memes on social media how people are panicking concerning this virus. We shouldn’t panic. Nevertheless we should take the necessary precaution to keep it from spreading. Don’t let your heart fail from fearing what the future holds. Know that there is a God who holds the future. God is in control.
Throughout all of human history there have been people who live fearing the worst. Like the verse says, they live expecting some catastrophe, some imminent danger. You think of the world wars, the threat of nuclear destruction, aids, drugs, terrorism, economic collapse, tsunamis, H1N1, Sars, Ebola, and now the Coronavirus pandemic. There is always something to fear, but that is not the way to live. I refuse to live that way because my God is in control. I refuse to live that way because perfect love cast out fear.
That is why I don’t fear an economic collapse, because my hope has never been on my money. If the economy should collapse my God can take care of me just like he fed the Israelites in the wilderness for 40 years. He will take care of you, too.
If you are fearing, let me introduce you to my best friend. His name is Jesus. His Word, the Holy Scriptures, tell me that He is in control. Despite the chaos God has a plan and because I know that, I can face tomorrow. Even if I should contract the virus and die, I trust Him. Why? Because I have formed a personal relationship with Him. I know and He has promised that—
“He will never leave me nor forsake me.” And “even though I walk through the valley of death, I will fear no evil…”
Get to know Jesus, invite Him into your life on a daily basis and He will cast away the fear you might be feeling. If you are tempted to give way to fear, sing this verse….
Because He lives I can face tomorrow,
Because He lives all fear is gone;
Because I know he holds the future.
And life is worth the living just because He lives.
